Popular Nigerian comedian, Seyi Law, has revealed his approach to dealing with online backlash and negativity.
During a recent appearance on HIPTV, the comedian explained how he separates internet trolling from his personal life, ensuring that online criticism does not affect his well-being.
Seyi Law emphasized that he maintains a clear distinction between online engagements and his real-world values.
“Internet trolls and backlash online, for me, even if I respond, it ends there. I don’t take it into my personal life, you don’t see me outside showing it on my face,” he said.
He further noted the importance of staying true to his core principles.
“As long as I try to be compassionate and kind to people, I am in the right standing with my creator. Once I’m in the right standing with my creator, every other thing doesn’t matter.”
Addressing the issue of defamatory statements, Seyi Law cautioned against crossing legal boundaries.
He advised individuals to avoid making unsubstantiated claims, especially when it could lead to legal consequences.
“You can insult someone and you can abuse them, but don’t defame them. Don’t say they collected money when you didn’t see them collect money, don’t call them ashawo when you didn’t see them involved in prostitution.”
The comedian concluded by sharing his personal coping strategy: “When a person insults me, those things don’t matter to me, that is your problem. But don’t defame. Don’t cross the boundary that will take you to jail. The ones that I feel I can reply to, I reply, and the ones I don’t feel are necessary, I ignore.”
