Refusal to treat gunshot wounds without police report criminal offence – Yomi Fabiyi

Yomi Fabiyi, renowned actor and human rights advocate, has taken to his Instagram platform to voice his concern on the critical issue of emergency medical care in the country.

In a post on Instagram, Fabiyi shared a video in which a man was complaining about hospitals demanding a police report before administering treatment during emergency situations.
Captioning the video, Fabiyi emphasized the fundamental right to life enshrined in law, condemning any actions that may jeopardize it.

He revealed the severity of the matter, highlighting that the refusal to treat gunshot wounds without a police report could lead to dire consequences, including fines and imprisonment.

Expressing his concern for societal well-being, Fabiyi called for urgent reforms, urging for the establishment of a national emergency number, a harmonized database, and the implementation of state police.
He cautioned against attempting to address gunshot wounds at home, emphasizing the importance of seeking professional medical assistance.
In his words,

“One of the MOST IMPORTANT public service announcements you and I must know and adhere to.
RIGHT TO LIFE is fundamental of every human under the law. It is a criminal offense to knowingly or unknowingly make any one lose their lives via refusal to treat their gunshot wounds by professional health care provider because they don’t have Police report. ONLY BACKWARD AND UNCIVILIZED COUNTRY/SOCIETY imposes such laws, and her people follow”.
“The government will continue to ignore basic social amenities and infrastructures that will enhance NATIONAL SECURITY if we as a society fold our arms and allow hospitals and health care givers get persecuted for doing the right thing by treating gunshot wounds as an emergency before reporting later to the Police.
Let us collectively demand for:
NATIONAL EMERGENCY NUMBER,

▪︎ HARMONISED DATABASE, and

▪︎ STATE POLICE.

■ DO NOT TREAT GUN SHOT WOUNDS AT HOME, NO MATTER WHAT except first aid”.
