“Nudity, kissing not essential for great storytelling”- Kehinde Bankole

Popular Nigerian actress, Kehinde Bankole, has shared her perspective on the role of nudity and kissing in films, stating that these elements are not always essential for delivering a compelling story.

In a recent interview on the YouTube podcast ‘Duke Rants,’ Bankole emphasized the importance of context and intelligent storytelling when incorporating nudity into a film.
She argued that while nudity can be depicted without being overtly sensual, it should be used with careful consideration and purpose.

“The key word is intelligent. There are instances where you see nudity, but it’s not perceived as sensual because of the context,” Bankole explained.
“Sometimes, you don’t need nudity, you don’t need excessive kissing, you don’t need all of that to tell a good story. For example, if a couple has been married for 10 years, you don’t need to start the scene by showing them in a sexual act.”

When asked about her own comfort level with going nude in a film, Bankole expressed hesitation, noting the potential for her response to be misinterpreted.
She clarified that while she is willing to fulfill artistic requirements, she prefers not to give a direct answer to avoid misunderstandings.

“I don’t like that question because the answer would always be taken out of context. This is the internet, after all. I’ll just say that I can do what is artistically required,” Bankole stated.
