American actress and TV host Ellen DeGeneres has announced her retreat from public life following the conclusion of her final shows for a Netflix special.
The 66-year-old comedian expressed her firm decision to step away from the spotlight, declaring, “This is the last time you’re going to see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done.”
She made this statement during her “Ellen’s Last Stand…Up” tour at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts in Santa Rosa.
Responding to a fan’s request for her to reprise her role as Dory from Pixar’s ‘Finding Nemo’ and ‘Finding Dory,’ DeGeneres replied, “No, I’m going bye-bye, remember.”
Addressing the controversies surrounding her talk show, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” which concluded amidst allegations of racism, sexual misconduct, and intimidation behind the scenes, DeGeneres acknowledged her reputation, stating, “[I] can be demanding and impatient and tough. I am a strong woman. I am many things, but I am not mean.”
Reflecting on her past stance regarding public perception, she admitted, “I used to say, ‘I don’t care what people say about me.’ Now I realize I said that during the height of my popularity.”
