Former CBN Governor, Emefiele, to Face Trial for Alleged Economic Sabotage

Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, will today be put on trial by the Federal Government on alleged economic sabotage-related offences.

Emefiele’s trial was initially scheduled to commence yesterday. He will be arraigned at a High Court in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Emefiele is accused of conspiracy and procurement fraud involving the award of contracts worth N6.9 billion to a company owned by his alleged accomplice, Ramalan Yaro. The charges also allege that Emefiele used his position to confer corrupt advantages on Yaro.

A notice for the trial indicates that Justice Hamza Muazu will preside over the proceedings.
