Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has shared emotional details about her final moments with the late singer Onyeka Onwenu, who passed away in July 2024.
Silva’s recollections come amidst the emotional backdrop of Onwenu’s recent burial at the Ebony Vaults in Ikoyi, Lagos State, on August 30.
In an interview with media personality WithChude, Silva revealed that she was with Onwenu during the tragic incident.
Silva and Onwenu were seated together at the 80th birthday party of Stella Okolie, CEO of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, where Onwenu collapsed.
Silva described the scene: “We were at the party together at the same table. At some point, when she was going around the room during her performance, she came to me, pulled me up, and we shared a moment dancing.”
She continued, “While singing ‘One Love,’ we both returned to our seats. I later noticed Shola Momoh saying, ‘she’s not well, she slumped on her chair.’ At that moment, she was unconscious but still had a pulse.
Efforts to revive Onwenu were immediate and intense. Silva recounted, “CPR was performed while she was on the floor, and we sought out doctors present at the event. I later went to the hospital where she was attended to for about an hour and a half before she passed away
