“I married to avoid backlash for my sex products business” – Jaruma

Controversial self-proclaimed sex therapist Hauwa Mohammed, popularly known as Jaruma, has opened up about the real reason behind her marriage to Ross Fahad Isabor, a union that ended in 2021 after three years.

Jaruma, who gained widespread attention for selling aphrodisiacs, revealed in a recent interview on the Issues and Society podcast that she tied the knot to escape the intense backlash she faced from northern Nigerians for being an unmarried woman in the sex products business.
According to Jaruma, her decision to marry was a reaction to societal pressures rather than love. “There was massive criticism from the north because I was selling sex products as a single lady,” she said.

“They wondered why people allowed a single woman to teach them what happens in the bedroom for lots of money.”
Despite the public scrutiny, Jaruma’s business thrived, making her N760 million in just three years. “The sex industry is a multi-billion industry.

I have a booming business, so I couldn’t just leave because of the heat,” she stated. Ultimately, she felt that marriage might be the solution to silencing her critics.
“I didn’t get married because of love. I got married a month after meeting my ex-husband just to get away from the pressure.”

In 2022, Ross Fahad Isabor, Jaruma’s ex-husband, publicly accused her of using his name to sell what he referred to as “fake products.”
