128 loses their live in Lagos crash – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Sector Command, says it recorded 376 road accidents which claimed 128 lives in Lagos State between January and October 2023.

The FRSC Lagos Sector Commander, Babatunde Farinloye, disclosed this in an interview with PUNCH Online on Wednesday.

Babatunde said, “We recorded a total of 276 crashes in Lagos State claiming a total of 128 lives between January to October.”

He added that travellers need to change their mindset about the ember months and conduct a proper routine check on their vehicles.

“The issue of ember is a delusion. There is nothing special about the issue of ember. It is people’s attitude and their mindset towards the ember months.

“People need to prepare when they are travelling and make sure they perform routine checks on their vehicles. They should also avoid overspeeding while driving,” he said.

He added, “The problem with the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is not about bad roads, the road is smooth and people are supposed to be experiencing quality travel time. I would like to implore travellers to obey traffic rules and avoid calling while driving.

“Another issue we are experiencing is  the issue of speeding. Most motorists do not ensure a proper routine check of their vehicles and to avoid accidents they are meant to do that frequently.”

He stated that the FRSC officers will ensure safety on roads across the state.

“FRSC will deploy a full capacity during this crucial period to enhance safety of all vehicles and we want to assure the public that we will work towards effective traffic management.

“We have embarked on traffic management and enlightenment. We will start Operation Zero which will help areas in emergency response. FRSC will ensure a robust management is established in Lagos state. All hands must be on the deck to curb indiscipline,” he concluded.
